Sedation Dentistry

Southington Dentistry | Sedation Dentistry, Root Canals and Contouring and Bonding

At Southington Dentistry, oral conscious sedation is a safe, needle-free treatment for adults who wish to feel relaxed at the dentist, without having to remember their visit. Dr. Salesky also provides nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” which is gently inhaled to evoke calm and restfulness.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right For Me?

As your family dentist in Southington, we offer sedation dentistry as a solution for patients with dental anxiety, a dental phobia, or for patients who have difficulty receiving the dental care they need. Adults may be ideal for sedation dentistry if they have:

  • High fear of visiting the dentist
  • Had traumatic dental experiences
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • A bad gag reflex
  • Very sensitive teeth
  • Limited time to complete their dental care
  • Complex dental concerns

Sedation dentistry is trusted by dentists nationwide to safely administer a controlled amount of sedative medicine to create a relaxing experience throughout a wide variety of treatments in general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, or restorative dental care.

The Trouble With Avoiding The Dentist

If you have a fear of the dentist or feel that you have difficulty sitting in the dentist chair, don’t hesitate to call our office at (860) 628-5029 to speak with our team. We know that going to the dentist isn’t easy for everyone, but avoiding your regular checkups can be a slippery slope to poor oral health. If find yourself avoiding the dentist, sedation dentistry may your ideal solution.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

You deserve to feel comfortable at the dentist, no matter what your dental care needs may be. At your consultation for dental sedation, Dr. Salesky can explain the safety of sedation and the options you may have, so that you feel fully informed and confident making a decision.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is inhaled at a predetermined dosage that is carefully monitored by our team as it gently dulls the senses to reduce any perception of pain. Moments after ingesting, you will feel noticeably calmer. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly after treatment, without any lingering effects. You will be able to drive yourself to and from the office!

Oral Conscious Sedation About an hour before your appointment, you will ingest an anti-anxiety medication in the form of a pill. You will remain completely conscious and entirely aware of your surroundings, in a tranquil state. Many patients enjoy this method as the time passes quickly and enjoyably, and they may have little memory of their visit once complete.

Your motor skills may remained dulled for a short spell after the appointment, so this method does require a friend or loved one to drive you to and from your appointment.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

By creating a relaxed and overall positive experience at your visit, sedation dentistry provides the following benefits:

  • Encourages patients to feel confident maintaining their oral health
  • Promotes comfort and ease at every regular appointment
  • More patients seek care when they need it, which means solving small dental issues before they become difficult or expensive to treat

At Southington Dentistry, our goal is to help you overcome your dental anxiety so that you feel confident and relaxed throughout every experience, from general cleanings to potentially complex treatments.
